Mesothelioma TreatmentChemotherapy

Navelbine

The chemotherapy drug Navelbine has been lauded for producing much milder side effects as compared with a number of other similar chemo drugs, such as cisplatin. It has been used consistently in the treatment of not only malignant pleural mesothelioma but also breast cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.

Navelbine has shown much promise as a mesothelioma treatment ever since its early days of clinical trials. Figures show that nearly half the participants in the study were stabilized for some time after treatment and almost 25% of the patients responded to the treatment. Other common chemo drugs generally have a success rate of about 20% with mesothelioma patients.

Treatment with Navelbine

Upon considering a variety of chemo drugs both old and new your oncologist may indeed determine that Navelbine is the correct drug for you. Below, youll find more information about the drug and how if is administered.

  • Navelbine may be injected intravenously through a cannula inserted in the vein or can be given through a central line, inserted near the collarbone or in the crook of the arm.

  • Treatment is administered on an outpatient basis.
  • The number of cycles needed is determined by each individual case. There is no pre-determined numbers.
