On August 21, 2026, an Orleans Parish jury in New Orleans, Louisiana awarded a $10 million jury verdict in a mesothelioma case fought on behalf of the family of Lynne Roy. Ms. Roy was a Louisiana woman who died from mesothelioma after using talc products made by Johnson & Johnson and other companies for decades. Her disease was linked to asbestos exposure from those products.

Ms. Roy and her family retained Early, Lucarelli, Sweeney & Meisenkothen after receiving a mesothelioma diagnosis in 2020. ELSM worked with co-counsel Dean Omar Branham Shirley (DOBS) to represent Ms. Roy and her family throughout the litigation. Following Ms. Lozano's death in 2020, her family continued the lawsuit on her behalf.

The jury determined that Johnson & Johnson was negligent and that its products were unsafe. This verdict was found in part because of the company’s failure to warn consumers like Ms. Roy about the dangers associated with asbestos and its possible contamination of Jonhson & Johnson’s talc products.

These same concerns applied to several other brands who shared the verdict. The jury determined that several other talc companies were also a significant factor in Ms. Roy’s death. Additional defendants included companies that intentionally included asbestos in their products.

The total award included $8 million in damages for Ms. Roy’s physical pain and suffering, mental anguish and loss of enjoyment of life, and $1 million each to her daughters, Melissa Kaiser and Melanie Roy, for the loss of their mother. Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay more than $1.2 million of this verdict.

The case is Lynne L. Roy v. Colgate-Palmolive Company, et al., No. 2020-02718, in the Civil District Court for Orleans Parish, Louisiana.
